About Me

My name is Jacob Thompson and I'm a local filmmaker in Colorado.

The reason I got into film in the first place is because my favorite aspect of it is story. I have spent most of my life studying the mechanics of how to tell a good story whether it was through reading books, writing, constructive criticism from others, or even something as simple as just watching movies. I try to gain as much experience as I can and I'm always eager to help out with anything video related any way I can.

Before I got into film, I intially started out as an actor. I was in four different showcases for an acting troupe when I was in middle school, but then moved on to freshman year to play boy Scrooge in my high school's stage adaptation of A Christmas Carol. In the following years, I was in a small variety of one act plays as they took up less time and I was aiming more towards a career in filmmaking. I had a small part as a jock (I know. Ideal casting) in a comedy called, This is a Test, a role as a greedy and sociopathic buisiness owner in another comedy called, The Ledge, and the lead role in a psychological drama called, Little Jason Meets His Boogeyman.

When I was 14, I signed up for the Colorado School of Acting Centennial Summer Film Camp where I got to help out in the production for a short film called, The Good, The Bad, and the Medieval. I loved it so much that I returned the following year and helped out with the production of another short film called, The Code. Sometime later, my best friend, Christian Hutchins, attended TV/Video Production at Warren Tech where I helped him out in a small variety of his projects. I played a supporting role in his first semester short film, The Salesman, which was never released to the public. I was also an actor for his music video, ProletR- It Don't Mean a Thing, and the silent protagonist for his final semester short film, By the Trainyard.

The following year, I signed up for the TV/ Video Production course at Warren Tech and I have no regrets. It made me certain that I wanted to pursue this field. Since I signed up, I've created or helped create short films, ads, and PSA's. While I'm still struggling to get my intention of becoming a film director off the floor, I've also found very comfortable ground in creating promotional material for clients.  I've won a few awards including second place in the SkillsUSA Digital Cinema Regionals Competiton for a short film a partner and I worked on called, Near Death of a Salesman, first place in the SkillsUSA Digital Cinema State Competition for the short film, Failure to Launch, the winner of the Best Promo/PSA at the 2016 Pie Awards for the suicide prevention video, Rebels Rally: You are Beautiful, and a nominee for Best Drama (also at the Pie Awards) for my short film, Noodlehead.

All of that recognition is a huge honor for me because I helped make videos with basically nothing and people enjoyed them. I sincerely hope I can continue doing so in the future.
